I think of myself as a builder of ideas rather than a maker of objects. I use word plays, double entendre, Anagrams, Palindromes and general misuse of language as a base for improvisation where Associations are made by means of absurd work related drills found within the text.
The work I engage in is about process as much as product. Craft is important only in how it functions conceptually and in relation to the purpose of the object. Materials are chosen for their immediacy, i.e. Steel wood plaster plastics and other non-precious materials. The well crafted object existing entirely of its own terms of its objecthood does not interest me. Beautiful objects can be drafted into the service of capitalism and thus become dangerous. My aim is to create temporary solutions for imaginary problems.
The viewer experience is my primary emphasis; Problematized by multiple layers of accessibility and interactivity. Similarly, my work depends on the context of presentation and plays on preconceived notions held by the viewer.
I aim for the work to be a cluster of grapes not grape juice; Equal parts granny smith, Smith & Wesson, Wesson oil, and Oil of Olay. Interpretation solves as many problems as it causes, but I believe that if you’re thinking anything you can’t be wrong.
The work may seem incomplete or imply an absurd function. Its work is play with a purpose. Tools and toys are easily confused. The objects threaten to be arbitrary, celebrating the foibles of masculinity, confusing boundaries between furniture, tools, and sports ephemera.
